If you believe DEI is reverse discrimination, than you’ve never really been discriminated against. If you feel uncomfortable in the visible presence and acceptance of LGBTQIA families, it’s because you’ve never really been discriminated against. I work for a large global company with a robust DEI initiative. No one is forcing ideology on anyone else. DEI efforts provide support for marginalized segments of society. White folks & Christians have never been marginalized in the US.
Interesting interview. I like hearing different perspectives. I get Robert’s idea of if you support them you should support me too but lgbtq rights and Christian values specifically with supporting conversion therapy are in direct opposition to each other. It’s impossible for a company to support both sides without contradicting the values it stands for. Where I have a problem with this is that we are equating one to the other, when being Christian and believing in god is a belief. It’s something you choose everyday to believe in. Meanwhile being gay or lesbian or trans is not a belief ITS WHO WE ARE.
It’s a deeply innate, unchangeable and fundamental part of our identity. I’m sure being Christian is a big part of his identity too but it’s not the same because again he chooses to believe in the Christian faith.
We have been oppressed throughout the years because of our identity and fighting for lgbtq rights is important because it’s wrong to discriminate against someone for something as immutable as being gay or being trans.
