I'm happy to hear this broadcast albeit a few days after it's premier.

What really burnt my heart was the question

How many transgender people do you know?

I was getting to know one. We meet at pride and I was looking forward to getting to know her more as she was smart, educated, irreverent, and sparkly.

Unfortunately, she was shot and killed by an Uber delivery driver just as our friendship was growing.

This murderer has a past history of harassment and legal troubles related to the LGBTQIA+ community. I haven't been able to follow up on the case as it is too painful and pointless.

I am so sorry she is gone, leaving behind two beautiful adopted children and I'm angry at losing my first actual trans friend to the kind of violence the gay community has been subject to for so long.

Thank you uncloseted media.

My adult daughter is trans and petrified at what’s happening. She came out in her late 20s and it was a huge education process for us parents to understand this community. I am continually educating my friends and acquaintances who are just ignorant, not necessarily willfully. I follow Erin Reed who had been so helpful in exposing the growing transphobic legislative actions, and have started emailing my legislators about specific bills. My perspective is that the scapegoating of the trans community opens the door for other groups to be targeted, if history is a guide.
